THE DIGITAL TV BOOM CONTINUES

The TV market is bound to get bigger and bigger with time. With the introduction of the next generation HD and 3D TV sets, the super fast fibre broadband connectivity and integrating the TV and internet together, one simply doesn’t know which way is technology heading too and what all new is in store. Then there is the launching of one brilliant mobile device after the other and also the faster mobile broadband and ….never mind.

This list may simply go on and on and on. There was also the Video On demand feature IPTV joint venture YouView which won over the hearts of one and all and saw lots of people downloading videos like anything. SeeSaw was the one that people were looking forward to create a stir in the VOD market but it was not to be. The kangaroo became rather pale in the view of YouView. Earlier named Canvas, YouView had a big setback when leading broadcasters like Sky and Virgin looked at it as a threat and tried every bit they could to block it. But then as fate would have it, not for long to be and the very flow of things changed. This is even as YouView became nothing short of a phenomenon in the realms of internet.

The recent step down of YouView CTO Anthony Rose notwithstanding the platform continues to woo people by the dozens who download videos like hell. In the mean while, even Virgin Media is out with its TiVo service that is again promising with its own set of pluses. But it remains to be seen as to how successful this one becomes. From the house of Sky, the Anytime+ VOD service has been launched for some time now as well. It has been received decently by the customers but then again it remains to be seen as to how far it goes when compared with Youview. Google, Apple and Yahoo are all offering their own web TV services and then there is the leading biggie You Tube which has already started churning out complete TV series and films. The web-connected TV is bound to get bigger by the day even as broadcasters, producers and even pay-TV operators are all striving night and day to make full use of the great potential that this platform offers with.
